Text Box: AFTON HOLIDAYS was established over twenty years ago by Chris Hawley and was a most successful ‘one man/one coach’ operation from the start. The company specialises in Coach Holiday Tours in the United Kingdom, and also operates day excursions. Afton was based in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, and is also well known in the Rugeley and Trent Valley area.
Prior to starting out on his own, Chris worked for many years at the well known local firm - Stevenson’s of Uttoxeter, affectionately known as ‘The Yellowbus company’.
Afton Holidays gained its name from a long and successful relationship with the Afton Hotel in Eastbourne - itself named after the small river ‘Afton Water’ which is the subject of a famous poem by Robbie Burns!
“Flow gently, sweet Afton! amang thy green braes,
Flow gently, I'll sing thee a song in thy praise;
My Mary's asleep by thy murmuring stream,
Flow gently, sweet Afton, disturb not her dream”.

In January 2013 the Afton coach operations passed on to Swiftsure Travel of Burton upon Trent who now arrange and operate all the Afton coach excursions, tours and private hire. Chris has now retired and the trips are now organised by the team at Swiftsure. Like Chris, most of the staff at Swiftsure used to work for Stevenson’s of Uttoxeter - including regular Afton drivers Andy and Clive, and MD Richard, who was the Stevenson’s depot manager in Rugeley in the mid-1980’s.
